                                THE PINNACLE FOR SAILING Yachting activities are a major focus of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Over the years, many great regattashave been hosted by our Club, including the SORC races andthe St. Petersburg to Havana races which originatedback in the 1930s. e Regata delor perpetual trophies.SPYC also boasts a number of famed members who have broughthome gold from the Olympics, sailed and coached in the America’s Cup, andwho have built world renowned sail andpower boats.Our Cruising Fleet each monthnavigates to other yacht clubs and  Sol al Sol, amore “casual”regatta, from St.Petersburg to IslaMujeres, Mexico,has been contestedcontinuously since 1968. e Club coordinates and hostsevents annually, including numerous national and international regattas, with competitors coming from all over the world. It is not uncommon for some of our regattas to draw over 200 competing boats - all striving to win one of the Club’s annualmarinas aroundto enjoy the camaraderieover 30 sailingFloridaand adventure of organized cruising.  e cruiser navigation group also enjoy their powerboats through predicted log competition where they compete among themselves on a regular basis. Many even compete and win nationally.JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM e Junior Sailing program, sponsored by theSt. Petersburg Yacht Club, is rated as one of the  nest in the country and o ers di erent levels of sailing instruction from beginner to advanced. Every summer the Club hosts a fun and educational “Learn to Sail” summer camp which is open toany youth with an interest in sailing, and usually generates over 300 participants.
